Nguyễn Đức Hải, born in 2006 in Hải Dương, began life with the same hopes and dreams as any other young person. However, his journey took an unexpected and challenging turn during the second semester of his 11th grade year. A diagnosis of glaucoma brought the devastating reality of optic nerve atrophy, severely diminishing his eyesight. His vision decreased dramatically, leaving him with only 1/10th of his former sight and making clear vision a struggle.
Initially, Hải faced a difficult period of acceptance. The prospect of losing his sight filled him with a sense of loss and profound discouragement. Yet, amidst this darkness, the unwavering love and support of his family, friends, and community emerged as a beacon of hope. They provided the strength he needed to adapt, to find new footing, and to move forward with a renewed sense of purpose. Instead of allowing his condition to define his limitations, Hải chose to embrace the possibilities that lay ahead.
This newfound determination led Hải to participate in a rehabilitation program organized by the Employment Support Center for the Blind in Hải Dương province. Here, he embarked on a journey of learning the fundamental techniques of traditional “tẩm quất” massage. Driven by a desire to build a brighter future, Hải successfully completed this basic course and demonstrated such promise that he earned a nomination for advanced training in Hanoi. This significant opportunity was made possible through the collaborative efforts of Omamori Spa and the National Training & Rehab Center for the Vietnamese Blind.
For Hải, this path represents far more than simply acquiring a new skill. It symbolizes a powerful step towards independence, a commitment to self-improvement, and the tangible hope of providing meaningful support for his family. His aspirations are clear: to refine his abilities to the highest level, to secure stable and fulfilling employment, and to make a valuable contribution to society. Despite the formidable challenges he has encountered, Hải continues to move forward with remarkable resilience, unwavering optimism, and a quiet courage that proves obstacles can be overcome through sheer determination.
Hải’s driving desire is to secure employment upon graduating from the advanced training course so that he can make income on his own.
