Born in 2005 in Nam Truc, Nam Dinh, Trung grew up in a working-class family with both parents employed as construction workers. From birth, he suffered from nystagmus, a condition that left him with virtually no sight, only able to perceive blurry shapes and distinguish between light and dark. Trung’s only older sister also has the same condition, but her health is much weaker.
Despite their difficult circumstances, Trung’s parents didn’t want him to be disadvantaged, so they made an effort to send him to school like other children his age. However, with his impaired vision, Trung soon faced discrimination and teasing from his peers. Trung shared that he was very sad at the time, but with the carefree nature of a child, the sadness quickly faded. In middle school, Trung transferred to the Center for the Blind, where he began learning Braille and embarking on a new journey.
In 2019, at just 14 years old, Trung began learning massage therapy – his first and only profession to date. After three months of training at the Provincial Center for the Blind in Nam Dinh, Trung started practicing in his hometown. For five years of diligent work, Trung not only honed his skills but also nurtured a desire to reach further. Wanting to find a new, more dynamic, and professional environment, Trung decided to move to Hanoi in 2024 to build his career. Through a friend’s recommendation, Trung learned about Omamori Spa, a well-known spa that supports visually impaired individuals in becoming professional massage therapists. After thorough research, Trung officially joined Omamori in May 2024.
Here, Trung continues to pursue his passion while having the opportunity to learn and grow. He shared that learning in the new environment wasn’t too difficult because the massage techniques were similar to the traditional Vietnamese massage he had done before. However, most of Omamori Spa’s clients are foreigners, so Trung still faces challenges in communicating and understanding them. Trung is striving to improve his English daily to better serve clients and gain more confidence in his work.
A special aspect of Trung’s journey is having his girlfriend by his side. They met in high school, and she is also a therapist at Omamori Spa. Trung shared that their connection is not just love but also a great source of encouragement, helping him stay strong through challenges and define a clear future. When asked about his future plans, Trung unhesitatingly replied, “I’ve never thought about doing another job because I truly love this work.” Trung’s dream is to focus on his development and, later, open a small spa with his girlfriend back in their hometown, allowing them to continue their profession while living close to their family.
